Year 4

Leavers Service - 17.7.23

I just wanted to say thank you to all those that were able to make Year 4's Leavers Service this morning.  It was so lovely to be able to celebrate these wonderful children and all their memories and accomplishments.  For those that were unable to make it here are some photos of our wonderful leavers receiving their bibles and autograph books.  They really have been a pleasure to teach this year and I will miss them hugely!

Kind regards,

Mrs McMullen x

Leavers Service - 17th July 2023

12.7.23 - End of term

Owls, this week there will be no home learning.  I want you to enjoy your last week at Trinity and use this time to fill your mind with fond memories and enjoyable moments.

I also wanted to remind you that on Monday at 9am we will be having our leavers service.  If you could, please let us know how many seats you will be requiring. We can't wait to celebrate with you and take you down memory lane, thinking about all the things you have done and achieved during your time here!

Kind regards,

Mrs McMullen

Home Learning - 4.7.23

What a busy couple of weeks we've had.  This week I am asking you to complete a project relating to our science learning.  We have been learning about electricity and scientists that have made discoveries and helped electricity move on.

Attached is a handout to guide you through a project showing how different elements of energy and storing energy work.

If you don't have access to some or all of the resources please let me know and I will make sure you have everything you need!

I will look forward to sharing what everyone has achieved next Tuesday (as on Monday you will all be at your Middle schools for Transfer Day)

Enjoy,

Mrs McMullen

Science project

What an amazing few days we’ve had at PGL. As you can see from the photos the children (and adults) had the most incredible time and the experiences we’ve had have been absolutely brilliant. We’ve eaten well, they are all very worn out but please know we are extremely proud of them all!

have a restful sleep Owls and see you in the morning.

Mrs McMullen

27.6.23 - day 2 activities

We have had the most wonderful, fun filled day of activities. We’ve had the opportunity to do low ropes, rifle shooting, climbing and abseiling. We are so incredibly proud of all of them for going beyond what they thought they would and really challenging their own fears.  They have done you all so proud. Here a few snaps from the day!

Enjoy 😊

Day 2

Good morning,

We all have all done fantastically on night one. A few little wobbles but settled quickly and up now and ready for breakfast!

We’ll update you on activities later.

Have a great day!

26.6.23 - We’ve arrived!

Hi all,

We have arrived safely and in really good time and had a very full and fabulous first day!
Coach journey was quick and straight forward and we settled into our rooms quickly! All very happy and enjoying residential life.

Our first day has included kayaking! As you will see from the photos to follow (Wi-Fi is very slow here) we did lots of rowing, games and had lots of challenges to complete.

We’ve also had our first dinner which consisted of lasagne (veggie and beef) or katsu curry and they even have a salad bar, so we’ve definitely eaten well ☺️

This evening involves sports activities, learning lots of songs and chants and having some free time for games!

Keep an eye out for our updates tomorrow!

Kit List for PGL

Home Learning - 20.6.23

Pack your bags!

This week we would really like the children to pack their bags with you and take responsibility for ensuring that all the things they need are packed and ready for our residential trip on Wednesday.

Please could you go through the contents of the bags with your children so they are really clear on what they are bringing and why. See if they can lead checking this off against the kit list, you should have received this in an email but I have attached it above incase you've missed it. Could you ask them to find the name in every item of clothing, so they can ensure it all makes its way back to you!

We are really excited about our residential and I will be sharing the 'hot of the press' itinerary with them tomorrow! Much to their delight!

Enjoy your packing,

Mrs McMullen

Oh Happy Day - lyrics

Home Learning - 6.6.23

This week's home learning is music! The children will be singing a version of Oh Happy Day for their Sports Day song and their Leavers Service.

Please see the link above for the lyrics. The song is pretty straight forward, except for the 'rap' part. The children really need to know the lyrics for this part in order for it to flow well.

Please could I kindly ask you to learn these words with your children. I'm so sorry that I can't share the song due to copyright issues from Charanga - our music scheme. Learning the words however will be enough.

We will be practicing this song over the next few weeks and will be doing a class share of what we have learnt next Monday.

Enjoy,

Mrs McMullen

Tuesday 6th June is Class Photo day. Owls would normally have PE on this day. Please send your child into school in SCHOOL UNIFORM for the photos. Thank you.

TTRS Maths Battle

Home Learning 23.05.23

Firstly, a huge well done to all of you who have been stepping up the practice of your times tables.  I have noticed a huge improvement in both accuracy and the pace in which you can answer questions.  We have also started a new 'battle of the bands' on TTRS which is running until 5th June.

As we are coming to another half term break, there will no be written home learning however, there is only one thing on our minds and that has to be Times Tables practice!

We will have practice sessions, using the same format as the real check which we started this week, but if there is anything you do at home too would be amazing!

The check has 25 questions, six seconds for each question, which will be randomly selected from all of the times tables up to 12.

If you would like some more information from the DfE, click here.

To practice, use this link to take to the Times Tables site the children are familiar with.

I would whole-heartedly recommend a good 15 to 20 minutes each time you do them to really sharpen up those multiplication skills and get them rooted in that long term memory.

Many thanks and have a wonderful break.

Mrs McMullen

Year 4 Tennis Festival at Emmanuel Middle School: On Wednesday 24th May, Year 4 have been invited to EMS to join in a tennis festival between 10.30am - 12.30pm. The children will leave from school and return at lunchtime where we will eat as normal. Please could you ensure the children are wearing their PE kits on Wednesday instead of Tuesday for this week only and that, as normal they have their water bottle and a sunhat.

Home Learning - 16.5.23

This week our home learning is focused on mathematics.  We are getting closer to the Year 4 MTC and so this week I would like to have a real focus on times table. Please practice your times tables every night using TimesTables.com focus on 7, 8 and 9s.

You can also use www.urbrainy.com/mtc or TTRS.

It is really important that if you do not know a particular times table that you focus particularly on this.  On Monday, instead of sharing your home learning we will be having a times table challenge so make sure you are as prepared as you can be :)

Kind regards,

Mrs McMullen

As you would have seen from the letter that came out today, next Thursday (2nd March) is World Book Day.  For this day, we are asking everyone to create a wooden spoon / potato character to represent your favourite book.  (Please see the letter for a couple of ideas of how these could look).  This will be your home learning for this week. We would like you to bring them in on Thursday with the book you have chosen to be able to share them with your class for our 'drop everything and reads.'

Can't wait to see what you create.

Kind regards,

TIMESTABLES! (You're welcome)

Here is the link to 2 websites that support in practising timestable checks.

MTC - (Multiplication Timestable check)

Timestable Check

These websites are designed to help you practice your timestables.

On the Timestable Check you can use the Speed Test X to select your target tables. When you feel confident, try the Multiplication Times Tables Check and see how you score out of 25.

MTC will give you a range of timestable checks in a 2 minute time. You will be able to see which you got correct or wrong at the end to know what you could focus on next.

Reflect, and think about which tables you need to improve. Focus on these and you can then choose to use this to do more practising or TT Rockstars.

Have fun!

Mrs McMullen

Home Learning - 18.10.22

For home learning this week, I wanted to wish you a restful week off, reflect on what we have learnt over the last 7 weeks and how you have developed in showing our values of hope, faith and love.

However, above is a list of the statutory words to learn by the end of Year 4 - we have already been learning and recapping them so some will seem very familiar to you, it would be wonderful if you recapped what you do and don’t know from this list.

Whilst you are off don’t forget to also be continuing with reading and times table practice too - the more you practice, the easier it will become!

Have a great break,
