Dear Badgers class of 2022-2023

What a fantastic year it has been! You should all be super proud of yourselves and the progress you have made! I’ve really loved being your teacher for the past year and cannot wait to see you all to continue to flourish in year 4. Me, Mrs Newnham, Mrs Taylor and Mrs Hawkins would like to thank all of you for the amazing and incredibly thoughtful presents!

Home learning:11.07.23

 

We will be focusing on French for our home learning. Use the knowledge you have learned in French so far this learning block and the knowledge organiser to help you.

 

The three tasks for this week are:


1. Revisit the ten verbs we have now learnt in our French lesson. (See the attached document)

 

2. Write sentences in French... e.g. Je peux manger.

Sort them into sentences, those that you like and those that you don't like. 

 

3. Choose five verbs to say with an appropriate action, write and illustrate.

Home Learning 05/06/23

  We will be focusing on Design Technology for our home learning. Use the knowledge you have learned in Design Technology so far this learning block and the knowledge organiser to help you.

 

The three tasks for this week are:


1. Find the meaning of these key words...

applique

cross stitch

running stitch

cushion

stencil

stuffing

 

2. Find examples of applique. List where you have found examples of applique. Draw an illustration or take photographs of where you have found examples. Write sentences explaining which examples you like and why. 

 

3. Look at different examples of cushions. What are they made from? What is the purpose of the cushion? How has the cushion been decorated? Draw examples or take photographs of examples that you like. Explain what you like about them.

We will be designing and making our own cushions this learning block. It would be really helpful to practice threading a needle, putting a knot about 2cm from the end of the thread and practicing running and cross stich.

Home Learning: 09/05/23

This weeks home learning focuses on Maths.

But first. Next Monday Badgers class shall be making sock puppets in our Art lesson. I'm asking all student to bring in at least one sock they would feel happy turning into a puppet.

 

The other piece of home learning is a timetables game. In year 4 the class shall have to take a timetables test. The link below leads to a similar game that can be used as practise to prepare them for this.

at the end of the test it will tell the students what timetables they need to work on.

Home Learning: 02/05/2023

This week our homework is focused on science. In class we have been learning about the rock cycle.

Your homework is to recreate the rock cycle using Starburst.

Below is a link with instructions on how to achieve this

You will need

  • Starburst sweets pieces
  • Ziplock bag or empty Starburst bag
  • Small cup
  • Plastic knife
  • Plate

And something that produces heat such as a hair dryer or microwave.

Home Learning 25/04/23

 We will be focusing on Geography for our home learning. Use the knowledge you have learned in Geography so far this learning block and the knowledge organiser to help you.

 

In school we are focusing on the geography of Western Europe. Please use the knowledge organiser and other sources of information to find out about the geography of France. 

 

The three tasks for this week are:

 

1. Concept: Location

Locate France on a world map and find out what continent France is in. 

 

2. Concept: Human and physical features

Explore what human and physical features there are in France. (Rivers, mountains, coastline, significant monuments and buildings.) 

 

3. Compare England and France. What is similar/different?

This weeks home learning is focused on Maths, or more specifically fractions.

This game replicates Tetris but using fractions. there are 3 difficulties; 

Low- Glass world

Medium- Metal world

High- Neon world

Please get your child to select their own difficulty with your guidance.

in class we have lessons learning about how to REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE.

Home Learning: 08/03/23

Hi all, it’s a nice and easy home learning task for this week. Your job is to find a box!

This box must be suitable for our pneumatic project in DT. Below is a diagram showing what our DT project will look like. As the students blow into the tube it will inflate the balloon. This will lift and open the box.

Any box will do, as long as it is made out of cardboard. Boxes like cereal and shoe boxes will work.

Home Learning - 21.2.23

 

As you would have seen from the letter that came out today, next Thursday (2nd March) is World Book Day.  For this day, we are asking everyone to create a wooden spoon / potato character to represent your favourite book.  (Please see the letter for a couple of ideas of how these could look).  This will be your home learning for this week. We would like you to bring them in on Thursday with the book you have chosen to be able to share them with your class for our 'drop everything and reads.'

1. Remind yourselves of different light sources (Natural and man-made). Draw/ write examples of light sources. 

 

2. Find out/ recall what opaque and transparent are and find examples of both around your home and local area. 

 

3. Carry out a simple investigation to find out which objects create the best shadows. Report your findings using writing and or pictures.

1. Write a definition for these important Hindu beliefs...

2. Suggest ways in which Hindus demonstrate good Karma. 

 

3. In some of our lessons we played snakes and ladders. Play the game at home, explaining how it teaches Hindu children about good and bad karma. You could also design your own game to teach children about karma.

Home Learning: 17/01.23

this weeks home learning will focus on Art.

Today in our lesson Badgers began to practice shading, following our 4 rules;

  • Shading in one direction​

  • Creating smooth, neat, even tones​

  • Leaving no gaps​

  • Ensuring neat edges when filling a shape

It would be beneficial if they could continue to practice this more in an area with plenty of light to cast shadows. 

A number of different items can be used

  • Flower vases

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Christmas.

This weeks homework is focused on Maths, I spoke to many of you at parents evening about the importance of problem solving questions, and how Badgers as a class have a habit of rushing these. Attached are 6 questions all testing different areas of maths. please support your child so they can answer as many of these as possible. but mostly so they take their time!

This week we will be focusing on English, please write a Character Flaw story

That follows the same structure as our last story and uses one of the flaws on our list

Flaws:

Addiction

Fear

Jealousy

Greed

 

Opening: Introduced to the main character

Build up: Character flaw is revealed

Problem: The flaw gets the main character in trouble

Resolution: Main character learns a lesson and changes their ways

Ending: All is well for the future because of change

Your task is to use this program to create a fake news article that I would believe. You have had some practice in our last lesson creating fake information web pages.

This week’s home Learning: 01/11/22

 

This week we will be focusing on DT for our home learning.  In DT we are beginning to look at seasonal food. Look at our DT knowledge organiser.

 

The tasks for this week are:

 

To identify what fruits and vegetables are grown within the United Kingdom.

This can be done by reading the packaging in supermarkets, or through searching the internet.

Next task is to draw and label these foods, Can this homework please be brought in for our next DT lesson next Tuesday.

For home learning this week, we are going to reflect on the spellings we have learnt over the last 7 weeks.
 

Above is a list of the statutory words to learn by the end of Year 4 - we have already been starting to learn them, it would be wonderful if you recapped what you do and don’t know from the ones covered in our spelling tests.  We have covered the first 13 lines.

This week we will be focusing on Art for our home learning. Open our Art knowledge organiser and use the art knowledge you have learnt so far to recreate some cave art found from the stone-age.

 

Use the internet to find some pictures of cave art. or use your imagination to come up with your own!

 

Then using what tools or mediums you have, attempt to recreate it.
