Have you sewn anything at home before? Could you practise sewing skills? (weaving or sewing will help improve dexterity).

The children will be designing and creating their own pouches for this DT project. If you are able to assist when it comes to the sewing part it would be greatly appreciated. The Easter holidays are fast approaching. Hedgehogs have worked super hard, please take a look at some of the photos below to see what they have been doing.

Gardening request: Can children please bring in spare gardening gloves and wellies. They will need them on and off through to summer term (we can send then back during the Easter holiday if needed). Finally, if there are any green fingered parents/grandparents that are able to offer time or support with our gardening that would be greatly appreciated.

As you would have seen from the letter that came out today, next Thursday (2nd March) is World Book Day.  For this day, we are asking everyone to create a wooden spoon / potato character to represent your favourite book.  (Please see the letter for a couple of ideas of how these could look).  This will be your home learning for this week. We would like you to bring them in on Thursday with the book you have chosen to be able to share them with your class for our 'drop everything and reads.'

This half term, an area of the curriculum we will be focusing on, is Design and Technology. We will be focussing on the food, cooking and adapting recipes element of this. Part of the process involves food tasting as well as the designing of and making of recipes. With this in mind, we will need to know up to date information regarding any food allergies or intolerances. Please can you inform us if there is something we should be aware of.

Our Learning from Block A

You have made it to the last week of this half term. Enjoy the rest but also please keep up with practising spellings, reading and number facts.  

Please see below for the spelling strategies taught so far this year.

The 4 strategies children have learnt so far are:

  • pyramid writing
  • have a go- alternative graphemes
  • drawing around
  • quick write

Please practise Year R/1 and the Y2 common exception words which can also be found in your child's school diary. 

Your child could show you the strategies by:

  1. practising
  2. applying- sentences containing these words (spelt correctly).

 

In addition to this please continue to read with your child daily. 

Some children have struggled with their Maths and extra number bond practise would be great too. The 1-minute maths app (linked above) is great to support with this. Bonds within 10 and 20 for fluency.
