Date set: 2.10.24
Date due in: 15.10.24
Spelling focus:
Week 1:
We will be learning how to spell words containing the /ei/ sound spelt ei, eigh and ey
eight, they, obey, vein, weigh, neighbour, eighth, neigh, beige, sleigh
These words are tricky because of the many different spellings they could contain. Could you in your home-learning books write these words, highlighting the ei sound and writing their definitions.
Towards the end of the week we will have a dictation where we can apply our learning of these spellings.
Week 2
We will be learning how to spell some words on the statutory spelling list
arrive, breath, circle, fruit, guard, height, often, popular
a fun technique to practice spelling words is a spelling spiral. Starting from the centre write out the word multiple times turning the page as your write to create a spiral, you could do each word in a different colour as well.
Towards the end of the week we will have a dictation where we can apply our learning of these spellings.
Maths focus:
For our times tables fluency for the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on the 3 times tables.
Making this part of your everyday routines is a great way to allow children to practice. Every evening you could write out your three times tables attempting to get quicker and quicker.
In our maths lessons we are currently focusing on ordering three-digit numbers
Try writing out some three-digit numbers and ordering them from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. E.g. 638 932 194 from smallest to largest is 194 638 932
Date set: Wednesday 18th September
Date due in: Tuesday 1st October

Spelling focus:
Week 1:
We will be learning how to spell common homophones
Hear-Here, Knot-Not, Mail-Male, Ball-Bawl, Groan- Grown
A great way to practice spellings is by breaking them down into smaller chunks, by doing such as a pyramid write or rainbow writing. This is where you write the word over and over on top of each other but change the colour each time you write it.
Towards the end of the week we will have a dictation where we can apply our learning of these spellings.
Week 2
We will be learning how to spell more common homophones
Meat-Meet, Berry-Bury, Peace-Piece, Break-Brake, Saw-Sore
Another way to practice spellings is through games like spelling tennis where you bat the letters back to each other until you build the whole word. Make sure you use a sentence to help know which homophone you are spelling!
Towards the end of the week we will have a dictation where we can apply our learning of these spellings.
Maths focus:
For our times tables fluency for the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on the 2 times tables.
Making this part of your everyday routines is a great way to allow children to practice. Every evening you could write out your two times tables attempting to get quicker and quicker.
In our maths lessons we are also focusing on partitioning 3-digit numbers, for this homework I would like you to pick 8 3 digit numbers and partition them. Like this
372= 300+70+2
Welcome back
Hello Year 3, Hope you have all had an amazing summer full of adventure and learning! I cannot wait to welcome you back on Thursday, Our Class Page will be the best place to come for dates, updates and home learning information. If its not here it will be on the school newsletter or a separate email will be sent home so please keep an eye out.
PE days - this term our PE days will be a Tuesday and a Thursday. PE kit should be worn to school on both of these days, starting this Thursday. It is also very handy to have your PE kit bag with spare clothes in case of wet weather or accidents where clothing may need changing. These can stay on pegs and will be sent home every half term.
Reading - We would love for you to read daily and we will make sure you have a reading book by the end of this week so that this can begin. When you read and record in your diary just 3 times a week you will be entered into our whole school reading raffle. We will be signing diaries on a Thursday ready to pick from the raffle on a Friday during our Value Star Worship.
Library - Every week on a Wednesday, we will have a chance to visit the library and you will be able to scan a book out to take home for the week. Every Monday will be a chance for you to bring this book back and you can scan out your next read.
Home learning - This year, home learning will look a little different. Please keep an eye out for information on this to follow. The aim is to get everyone settled and so there will be no home learning sent out until the WB 16th September.
